San Giorgio began in the eighties as a small pastry factory in Castel San Giorgio, near Salerno. Over the past 35 years, it’s grown to become a leading company in the national and international food service market.
In a continuously changing market, the customer and their needs continue to be San Giorgio’s priorities. The company diligently works to update its product range and improve the quality of its services.
San Giorgio focuses its attention not only on latest-generation production and conservation systems, which form the basis of the company’s continuous growth, but also on its internal logistics, which are designed to maintain a service that is efficient and lives up to its reputation.
To do this it entrusted Automha, which, thanks to its competence in the frozen sector, immediately proved to be the ideal partner.
Storage in the frozen sector involves compliance with specific requirements including high storage density, energy efficiency, reduced production times and minimal margins of error during the picking and delivery of orders, as well as guaranteed 24-hours of refrigeration. And all this at extreme temperatures. In addition, the goods stored in the warehouse are perishable and require highly efficient levels of traceability.
San Giorgio wanted to increase the storage capacity of its warehouse by expanding vertically and make it more efficient by automating all management flows of the finished product without compromising any of the qualities specified by the sector.
Automha analyzed the customer’s request and designed and created a warehouse that extended seven meters below ground, with a temperature of -25°C.
The pallets containing the packages of finished products are taken by a robot on an external isolated area to the warehouse and directed to the refrigerated storage rooms using a handling system together with a lift that transfers them below ground. The same system is used to retrieve the pallets from the warehouse and take them to the ground floor where conveyors direct them to a dedicated loading area.
Handling inside the automatic warehouse for the frozen sector is managed by the Autosatmover, a fully automated modular system for storing pallets at multiple depths, and Supercap, an on-board satellite controlled by a mother shuttle via Wi-Fi, directing operations in the various storage channels for the automatic retrieval/deposit of pallets.
The San Giorgio automatic warehouse for the frozen sector holds over 1,400 loading units, each with maximum dimensions of 800x1200x2200m.
The client was extremely satisfied with the result: in a short time, the automated storage systems implemented by Automha optimized costs and standardized processes, thereby increasing the efficiency of the service offered to its customers.
In addition, San Giorgio significantly increased its storage capacity capitalizing on the already existing warehouse, instead of making costly investments purchasing other buildings or land.
It should be noted, however, that the industrialization of processes has not affected the quality of the products, which have maintained their appearance and genuine, artisanal flavors, and continued to respect tradition.
