Problem

In 2015, Centrale del Latte in Brescia opened a second, fully automated aseptic packaging line for milk (from Pro-forma to palletized product). The pallets out of the line, packed and labeled, are stored within the new automated warehouse built by Automha. The automation was needed to manage products at very high rotation in a small space but had to reconcile with structural constraints of the existing building. This made the choice of a standard installation impossible, or at least not very competitive. Despite that, Automha has been able to study an excellent fully customized solution.

Solution

Automha has considered the adoption of a completely tailor-made plant, arranged on two areas with orthogonal orientations, on two different levels, and connected by an elevator/lift.

The top-level consists of a system capable of storing more than 300 pallets. Managed with multi-depth FIFO logic, the movements take place using a special stacker crane without a guide for upper obstructions (Automha FMC model), which works on four storage levels and a total of 8 in-depth pallets managed by Automha’s Supercap satellite – a satellite with no battery but powered by a super-capacitor of military origin.

The basement is equipped with the Autosatmover automatic warehouse. This has shelving on two storage levels, capable of storing more than 150 pallets in multiple depths, three in-depth pallets on one side, and one single pallet area on the other side. Loads are handled by two Autosatmover (one per level), each with its own Supercap. Here the machines work in an area at a controlled temperature (+4 C°).

Advantages

The solution proposed by Automha has proven to be successful for La Centrale Del Latte, which openly recommends our technologies. “The use of AutosatMover for an automatic warehouse for pallets” – explained Bonometti, Technical Director of Centrale – “has allowed us to fully exploit the height of the building, equipped with the classic rail design, and have four levels of storage”.
